The VV Review

The revived Orient Express — the storied name behind the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train — is opening a Venice hotel as one of the flagships of its new hospitality chapter. As a brand-new 2026 arrival, it brings the rail legend's particular romance and Art Deco glamour into a permanent Venetian address. It joins La Minerva in Rome as part of Orient Express's push into grand hotels, and given the pedigree (and the deep Venice–Orient Express history, via the Cipriani's own Belmond/Orient-Express lineage), it's among the most anticipated openings in the city.

First Impressions

The Orient Express Venezia is a floating hotel — a converted historic vessel moored in Venice, combining two things the city does better than anywhere: the experience of being on the water and the experience of staying somewhere extraordinary. It is not a palazzo. It is something else entirely.

Boarding the vessel is the arrival experience. The design references the golden age of rail travel — the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express — in a context that makes the connection feel earned rather than nostalgic.

The Neighborhood

San Marco — central Venice. (Confirm exact address and opening details at publication; this is a new 2026 property.)

Orient Express Venezia is one of the most anticipated new arrivals in the city — the rail legend's glamour made into a hotel. A 2026 opening to watch closely.

What We Loved
THE CONCEPT

A floating hotel on the Venice waterways, designed to reference the Orient Express heritage. There is nothing else like it in the city, or really anywhere. The concept is unusual enough that either it earns the attention or it doesn't — and the early response suggests it earns it.

THE EXCLUSIVITY

Limited cabins, by definition. This is not a hotel you share with hundreds of other guests. The scale is intimate in a way that even the best Venetian palazzi cannot match.

THE SETTING

Venice from the water is a different city from Venice on foot. Waking up on a vessel in the lagoon, with the city visible across the water, is a perspective that cannot be reproduced on land.

THE NOVELTY

For the traveler who has done Venice seriously and wants a genuinely new experience of the city, this is the proposition.

Worth Knowing Before You Book

This property opened in 2024 and is genuinely new. Read current reviews carefully — the experience will evolve as operations settle.

Access to the vessel requires boat transport. This is not a limitation — it is part of the experience — but it is different from a land-based hotel.

The dining experience on board is central to the proposition. Book in advance.

The price is at the very top of the Venice market. The novelty and exclusivity are the justification.
