First Impressions

A handsome Belle Époque brasserie by the old Bourse — beautiful woodwork, classic menu, the genuine 19th-century article.

Le Gallopin opened in the 1870s across from the Palais Brongniart (the old stock exchange) and still wears its Belle Époque dress — mahogany, brass, painted glass, a cupola. It's the kind of authentically historic brasserie that survives on doing the classics reliably in a beautiful room. Named, the story goes, for a measure of beer. A solid, characterful choice in a part of the 2nd that's thin on them.

What We Loved
THE KITCHEN

Brasserie standards — oysters, steak, the traditional repertoire — in a room that makes them taste more occasion-worthy.

THE ROOM

Belle Époque woodwork, a glass cupola, mirrors and brass — a genuine 19th-century brasserie interior near the old Bourse.

WHAT TO ORDER

STEAK FRITES · ONION SOUP

THE VIBE

Le Gallopin is the real Belle Époque brasserie, still pouring near the old exchange. For the historic-brasserie experience without the tourist crush, it's a quietly excellent choice.

Worth Knowing

Book ahead — reservations are essential on weekends and for prime dinner times.

Lunch is often easier to secure than dinner and offers the same room at better value.
