Scott's on Mount Street is the restaurant that Mayfair regulars treat as infrastructure — you book it the way you use an address that has always been there and always will be. British seafood since 1851, a crustacean bar along one wall, a room where you'd recognize at least one face at lunch on any given weekday. It does not perform its heritage at you. The room and the cooking exist in confident alignment with each other.
The crustacean bar is the way in — sit there if you can get a stool, order the dressed crab and a half-bottle of Chablis, and let the hour organize itself. The terrace on Mount Street in summer is one of the better outdoor tables in London.
What We Loved
The dressed crab is the non-negotiable order. The grilled lobster, the native oysters, the dover sole — this is seafood done in the British manner with quality that justifies the room.
The classic Mayfair dining room — dark wood and banquettes, a crustacean bar, white tablecloths, a room that is both smart and relaxed in a combination only the best restaurants achieve. Recognizable faces are part of the atmosphere.
