First Impressions

Henry Harris doing classic French bistro in Fitzrovia, correctly and at good value. One of the best brasserie meals in London.

Henry Harris spent two decades at Racine in Brompton, which was one of London's finest French restaurants before it closed. Bouchon Racine, which he opened in Fitzrovia in 2023, is the continuation: a proper French bistro where the canon (terrines, duck rillettes, steak au poivre, a tarte tatin worth arguing about) is treated with the kind of seriousness that makes simple food difficult to execute and very easy to eat.

The wine list rewards attention. The room is warm and unpretentious. The value is, by Mayfair standards, remarkable. This is French cooking by someone who has spent a lifetime understanding why it matters.

What We Loved
THE KITCHEN

Classical French bistro — the terrine, the rillettes, the steak, the sole. Order from the spirit of the tradition and you will not be disappointed.

THE ROOM

A proper bistro room — cozy, French in feeling, unhurried. The room that matches the food rather than competing with it.

WHAT TO ORDER

TERRINE DE CAMPAGNE · STEAK AU POIVRE · TARTE TATIN

THE VIBE

Bouchon Racine is Henry Harris doing exactly what he knows how to do. For classical French bistro cooking at honest prices, it's one of the best meals in central London.

Worth Knowing

Reserve well in advance — this room fills weeks out, especially on weekends.

Lunch is often easier to secure than dinner and offers the same room at better value.
