Palazzo Dama is a former aristocratic 19th-century residence turned boutique hotel near the Vatican, and its appeal is in the proportions — the high ceilings and grand scale that old Roman palazzi manage so well — plus a rooftop terrace and a pool, a genuine rarity in central Rome. It's stylish, relatively intimate at 31 rooms, and a comfortable base on the calmer Prati side of the river.
First Impressions
The Prati neighborhood is Rome's most genuinely livable — it is where Roman families shop and eat. Arriving at the hotel from Castel Sant'Angelo, the sense is of a city that belongs to people who live in it rather than people visiting it.
The palazzo interiors are warm in the specific way that Roman buildings can be when they have not tried too hard. The proportions are original, the light is real, and the rooftop terrace visible on approach is a signal of things to come.

What We Loved
One of the better rooftop views in Rome — the Castel Sant'Angelo, St Peter's dome, the Prati roofscape. In warm months, the aperitivo hour here is one of the better evening propositions the city offers.
Prati is where Romans live. The restaurants are for locals, the shops are real, the pace is unhurried. For the traveler who has already done the monuments, this is the version of Rome worth staying in.
Palazzo Dama's restaurant is not just a hotel restaurant. It has a genuine Roman reputation and fills with non-guests, which is the correct signal.
