First Impressions

One of the great London rooms — the Victorian food halls inside Harrods that most visitors walk past to find the perfume department.

The food halls are from 1902. They are magnificent — high ceilings, tiled walls, display cases that run the length of the room. The fish counter has the best seafood display in London. The cheese room. The prepared foods. The bakery section toward the back.

Go in the morning on a weekday when the rooms are not yet crowded and the restaurateurs are still buying. The experience is completely different from the afternoon tourist version of the same space.

What We Loved
WHAT IT IS

The fish counter. The cheese room. The prepared salads and terrines. The bakery section toward the back. The charcuterie counter, which most people walk past.

THE VIBE

Do not rush. Do not go on a Saturday unless you have accepted what that decision means. The morning is always the correct time.

Worth Knowing

What to order — a dressed crab; cheese for wherever you are going next; something from the bakery that you will eat on the way out.
