L'Opale Noire

A new arrival in the 7th, just off rue de Bellechasse and a stone's throw from the Musée d'Orsay, L'Opale Noire opened in 2026 with 30 rooms designed by Thomas Fournier-Concina and a signature fragrance created by Paul Guerlain. The name announces the mood: dark, precious, particular. The restaurant Le Boudoir is already pulling its own crowd.

The 7th arrondissement is one of Paris's quieter luxury addresses — grand in scale, residential in feel, a neighbourhood of ministries and old money. L'Opale Noire slots into this with confidence: the design is deliberate and slightly moody, with custom-made furniture and a palette that earns the name. You notice the scent before much else — the Paul Guerlain house fragrance is diffused throughout.

Thirty rooms, each shaped by Fournier-Concina's attention to French craft: bespoke joinery, considered textiles, nothing sourced from a hospitality catalogue. The result is intimate rather than imposing. Bathrooms are well-executed. Rooms at the upper floors pick up good Paris roofline light.

The ground-floor restaurant operates across breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner and has quickly established itself as a neighbourhood destination. French in sensibility, precise in execution, with a room that works as well for a working lunch as it does for dinner.

The Musée d'Orsay is a four-minute walk. Tuileries Garden and the Champs-Élysées are within 15 minutes on foot. This is Left Bank Paris at its most settled.
