First Impressions

On the north coast, in a small cove at Cala Xuclar. The menu is whatever came in that morning and speaking English marks you as an outsider — in the best possible way. This is where locals eat, not because it has been discovered and certified as authentic, but because it is just good and on the water and not trying to be anything else.

We had shrimp and a catch of the day over a kilogram. Simple. The kind of lunch that makes you want to come back next summer.

What We Loved
THE CATCH OF THE DAY

Whatever came in that morning. No menu in the tourist-destination sense — the kitchen communicates in approximate terms and you commit to whatever they have. This is the correct approach.

THE COVE

A small cove on the north coast, unmarked on most maps, with water the colour of sea glass. The kind of beach that has been here forever.

THE CROWD

Locals, long-term residents, the kind of visitor who found this by asking someone who had been before. No one is performing. Everyone is just eating.

THE PRICE

A kilogram of fish and cold shrimp for a fraction of what you would pay anywhere else on the island. The value is a feature.

Worth Knowing

No reservations. Turn up, find a table, ask what came in.

Speaking English marks you as an outsider. This is fine. The gesture of trying is appreciated.

The north coast drive to Cala Xuclar is part of the experience. The roads are narrow — give yourself time.
